Dr. Mary Schuetz - Vice President

drmaryDr. Schuetz joins the board with more than 20 years of experience caring for children with a wide range of Developmental Disabilities or Delays. Some families still remember her as Dr. Reese, but she changed to using her married name some years ago. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Developmental – Behavioral Pediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.  As the Chief of Developmental Pediatrics for the USAF Keesler Medical Center, in Biloxi MS, she received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service      , awarded in March of 1994 for excellent care of disabled military dependent children and exceptional resident education.  In May of 1998, she received the Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day Service Provider Award. Dr. Schuetz has been a consultant and organizer for educational and emotional support groups for parents of children with Developmental Disabilities, provided countless talks and presentation to community groups as well as academic groups, has served as the Medical Director of Born Hava Preschool in Buffalo, NY, a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of Children’s Hospital Home Care, and provided Developmental Pediatrics consultation to the Heritage Programs of WNY.  She has provided guidance for Early Intervention Programs, both in WNY and Mississippi and currently serves on the Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council for Erie County. Her experience organizing Annual Conferences for the Buffalo Consortium for Medical Education in Developmental Disabilities, SUNY at Buffalo, NY served her well for developing the Curriculum for Developmental Pediatrics for the Pediatric Residency Program at the USAF Keesler Medical Center, Biloxi, MS.  Most importantly, she was Sophie’s pediatrician, and has been one of Sophie’s Angels, volunteering to provide respite in home so the parents of an adorable young boy could finally leave the house together for the first time in 5 years.

Research and professional interests include outcomes in premature infants, and biochemical abnormalities in Autism and related disorders.  Her passion is early identification of children with developmental delays so they can receive the best care possible. Dr. Schuetz is the co-owner of Seedling Developmental, Inc, specializing in Educational and Neurodevelopmental Evaluations for children with known or suspected Developmental Delays.  Children with Developmental Disabilities may be different, but they are not less and deserve to be treated with the same love and respect as any other child. Although she is a native Floridian, her two children have convinced her that Western New York is the only place to live!
